Our office continually searches for technological advances to ensure that we are delivering the highest level in patient care. We are particularly concerned about oral cancer, which too often is found in the later stages of development and as a result has only a fifty percent five year survival rate. Oral cancer is a growing problem and is most common among people over 40 years of age and tobacco users. This low survival rate is akin to the survival rates for breast, cervical, and prostrate cancer that used to prevail prior to early detection screening. With the advent of mammograms, pap smears, and PSA tests the five year survival rates for these cancers has sky rocketed, and these dreaded diseases no longer mean a death sentence to the patient.

We are pleased to inform you that there is now an early detection screening device for oral cancers as well. This simple, painless, and non-invasive technology, called ViziLite, gives us a better chance to find any oral abnormalities you may have at the earliest possible stage. Early detection of pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions can minimize or eliminate the disfiguring effects of oral cancer and potentially save your life.

We have incorporated the ViziLite exam into the standard of care in our practice and this test will be offered to patients on an annual basis.
